5 Rules to follow for Lace in the Workplace | Grey Lace Top

Growing up, lace always seemed to have a bad connotation to it. In the last couple years, it has transitioned to be a classic staple in my wardrobe. There are key ways to make sure it's work appropriate though.

OUTFIT DETAILSGREY LACE TOP (Chicwish) c/o | PANTS (my NEW favorite!) | HEELS | HANDBAG | EARRINGS | LIPS (Snob)

On my second week of work, I have decided I would share some tips on how to create a classic work outfit around pieces that could easily be put together in an outfit that could be deemed inappropriate for your job. This grey lace top had me swooning when I unwrapped it. I saw how cute it could be but also how easily this grey lace top could be worn incorrectly at work.

It's a very fine line. Thanks to my mama, I have always known what that line is.

5 Rules to follow for Lace in the Workplace.

  1. Appropriate Undergarments: This top is lined half way down. I wear a white thick strapped tank top under it so it blends in with my white pants and you can't see where the lining stopped and the pants started. Creating a more smooth look underneath the lace will draw less attention to straps and such.
  2. Layer Appropriately: This grey lace top has long sleeves so in most work environments, it will be ok to wear without a blazer or cardigan. To play it safe, if you wear a cover just slip one on over this top too.
  3. Neutral Colors: Bright or bold colored lace pieces look either very dressy or inappropriate for work. Step with caution and choose neutrals. This grey lace top would be great in white or black for work!
  4. Accessorize Minimally: Queen of accessories over here kept them to a minimum for this look. Let the lace be the centerpiece of the outfit. I keep my colors more neutral to allow them not to fight. Also, notice my arm party is all one color as to not be too big of a statement with the lace.
  5. Loose Fit: In the workplace, opting for a loose fit in most pieces will be a good rule of thumb. Lace, especially as this, can be the defining line of appropriate vs not appropriate.

A little insight, you can tell how windy it was taking pictures for this grey lace top when almost every photo has my hand in my hair lol!! Thought I would share that. Now don't count how many, ok!
