What my mother DID and DIDN’T give me | Giveaway

I am so thankful for the things my mother gave me, either by genetics or by her choice in raising me. I am sharing about what I am thankful that she DID and DIDN’T give me.

My mom is someone I look up to. She is the strongest person I know. From raising 4 kids in ages only 5.5 years apart to driving me all over the place for extracurricular activities and sports. She is a rock star and doesn’t get the credit she deserves.

I am thankful for what she has given me:

Creative mind
My love for coffee.
Thick hair genes. (yes, my locks came from my mama!)
My health and outlook on life.

That I look just like her.

I am thankful for what she has taught me:

Gentle spirit
How to shop frugally.
Clean….efficiantly and quickly!
Organize (you know the three piles: throw away, keep, and give away)
To shave my legs when I was self-conscious. (This seems strange,
but when you are in 4th grade and everyone calls you monkey
woman, she taught me to shave and to stand up to the bullies because of it).
Doing Makeup
Create lasting friendships.
The love for reading and learning.
A persevering attitude.
The love for people.

I am thankful that she DIDN’T give me:

A difficult childhood. I grew up surrounded by love.
A need for attention, she was always there.

My terrible acne prone skin.

I NEVER had acne in high school or even college, it was when I turned 21-22 that I began to have the skin I have now. I am so thankful I never struggled with this when I was younger, it would have reeked havoc on my self-esteem. Don’t get me wrong, I still have moments where I am ashamed but I now have balance in my life and self-worth that isn’t dependent on my skin.

Since my skin didn’t come from my mother, I have had to fight this battle semi-blindly. When your mom or dad have experienced something you are experiencing, there is an expertise that comes from it. My mother has had to walk through this with me and help support emotionally as I have tried to find solutions. This has been HUGE for me during this battle.

About 4 weeks ago, I started to use a new line of skin products. I was hesitant at first because you never know how your skin is going to react but I had already been using a product from this brand so I thought I should at least give it a go.

I have NEVER seen these results in such a short period of time from skincare.

Paula’s Choice has answered my skincare needs. I started using the Clear kit, Niacinamide Booster, Resist Barrier Repair moisturizer, and Clear Clearing Treatment 4 weeks ago (my terrible before pictures on IG stories!). After the first 3 days, I was ready to throw in the towel. I was breaking out so bad, my skin hurt. I sat down next to my mom all teary eyed expressing how badly I wanted to give up on the products. She encouraged me, like she always does, to keep trying. That love and support are what I needed because 4 weeks later my skin has never looked better since my adult acne hit.

This is the routine I have been using:

ONE: I use my oil and hot water method to take my makeup off. The jojoba oil breaks down the makeup.

TWO: I use THIS cleanser from the kit to wash my face. About 2 times a week I use the Clear cleanser with my Clarisonic to be sure I am still exfoliating.

THREE: Next, I use THIS toner. I started using THIS toner from the kit but it dried out my eczema too much. If you don’t have eczema, this toner would be perfect for you!

FOUR: Then I take THIS moisturizer and drop 3-4 drops of THIS serum in it. I put this all over my face, chin, and neck. This serum is called Niacinamide Booster which helps to reduce pore size, help with anti-aging, and brightens your skin tone! This has been a miracle product for me. You can use it like I do, by mixing it, or you can use it by its self. I’m currently giving one away, enter at the bottom to win!

FIVE: Next, I take THIS spot treatment and treat my entire neck (I have bad cysts under my neck from hormonal imbalances) and small dots on large breakouts.

SIX: In the morning, I cleanse my face with hot water and use THIS moisturizer before I put my makeup on.

I am giving away THIS set of the Clear line along with the Niacinamide Booster serum! Enter the raffelcopter or on Instagram to win! The giveaway will last until Saturday, May 20th at 11:59 pm (PST). I will announce the winner on my blog on May 21st!

This routine was the shake up my skin needed! I am so happy with the results that I went out and bought more of these products so that I won’t be without.

If you suffer from mild to severe acne, you need to try the Clear line by Paula’s Choice and I am so excited to give you the chance to WIN a set!

10 Jackets you need in your wardrobe for Spring and Summer!

Spring and Summer are the seasons you don’t think about needing jackets but you almost always do. I’m sharing 10 of my personal favorites that will be game changers these seasons.

These are not listed in any particular order but they are all in full rotation through the Spring and Summer. Some of these may surprise you for being worn as a jacket but they are amazing!

One: Chambray top

10 Jackets you need in your wardrobe for Spring and Summer!

A chambray top is a great top be worn as a button up top but in the Spring and Summer, I love wearing this as an open front jacket. I have worn this one for over a year after I had to replace mine of nearly 5 years. You cannot go wrong with this piece. It can be worn with shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses, etc.

Two: Puffer Vest

This is what I wear in the Spring time with a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt with. It also travels with me when we go camping in the summer! Spring can be a super chilly season so don’t write off a slightly heavier weight option.

Three: Green Utility Jacket

I wear this constantly through the Spring and Summer. In the Spring, I layer it with sweaters. In the Summer, I layer it with t-shirts and shorts. You should try it layered over dresses too, it’s the perfect neutral layering piece.

Four: Long Duster

Yes, this is not considered a “jacket” in most places but it is in my book. I wear all my dusters as jackets in the Spring and Summer. It’s a cozy way to add a pop of color or to just switch up your normal go to.

Five: Tan Trench Coat

I invested in this piece last Spring and have lived in it! I love it with a dress or dress clothes but my favorite is with jeans and a t-shirt for a classic look. If you don’t have a trench, you need one!

Six: Green Utility Vest

I wear this piece year-round as well but highlight it in the Spring and Summer. It’s so lightweight that I can wear it layered over a dress or a t-shirt and shorts!

Seven: Brown Suede Moto Jacket

I just got this jacket this last Spring and have worn it SO much. I love wearing it with dress pants for a more trendy look, over a dress like I have it here, or with shorts! It’s a versatile piece that not many have in their wardrobes but should!

Eight: Colored Blazer:

This blazer is about 4 years old and is my MOST worn blazer in my closet. You’ve seen me wear it with a baseball hat, jeans, leggings, etc. I firmly believe to buy pieces that make your wardrobe fun, especially in the Spring and Summer. Choosing colors is an amazing way to spice up your wardrobe rather than wearing black all the time.

Nine: Patterned Utility Jacket

I bought this piece on a whim and I can tell you without a doubt that those $15 have been well worth it. I love wearing patterns under this piece. It’s great to wear over your typical Spring and Summer outfits while giving them a fun texture!

Ten: Pink (colored) Trench Coat

I bought this piece thinking that it would be a fun piece every once and a while. I have worn this SO much! Having a fun pop of color in a jacket is a great way to make your wardrobe stretch and feel different!

The Best Accessory | Spring Trend with Visionworks

There are thousands of accessories to wear but I definitely have my favorites. I am sharing about one of them today and the Spring trends that go along with them! Hint: I have four eyes.

BRACELETS one two three four | LIPS (Snob)

I was so excited when I had to get glasses in high school because I knew how cute of an accessory they would be. Yes, I was a fashionista early on! Glasses and sunglasses both are the best accessories. They can make an outfit look so chic with a pop of color or trendy frame! I am sharing this Springs top 3 trends in eyewear: go for gold details, dare to go green, and be bold with angular suns.

I don’t think I have to tell you how much I love gold details. These Kate Spade glasses are no different! I am in love with this accessory. It’s the perfect statement to be bold with but also still classic. The frames are mid-size that will work for most face shapes. They are so comfortable and don’t pinch my head, this is something I struggle with if the frames are too narrow.
If you are on the hunt for a chic statement, THESE are them!

Jason loved this pair! The black has a quilted like texture in the metal that adds a cute detail. These are extremely light weight but are still very sturdy. I have struggled in the past with glasses being lightweight and not sturdy. This pair is perfect for a more subtle gold statement. If you have been wanting to add gold into your accessories, THIS pair of glasses is a great first step!

Green is one of those colors that I think gets overlooked too often. I LOVE my pink but my two other favorite colors are blue and green. They are great neutrals that can be worn in so many ways! Here I am wearing them with a deep rose shade. I wear them with blue, blush, purple, tan, gray, etc. I was always hesitant to wear a frame that is a solid color until Jason asked me to pick out a pair of red ones. Ever since then I have loved a bold color for my frames.

If you are nervous about making too big of a jump into color, THESE green frames are the perfect start!

Ever since I worked for Kate Spade in SoCal, I have been obsessed with the cat eye sunnies look. They are classic and make a statement in the best way possible. THESE Guess sunnies have embellishments on the angular frames which are the perfect pop. These are a VERY sturdy pair of sunnies, they are comfortable when wearing them, and they don’t sit on top of my cheeks…you know when sunnies sit too close to your face and when you take them off you have rub marks on your makeup?? Please tell I am not the only one that looks out for this!
If you know what I am saying and struggle with it too, you need THESE!

Make a statement with your frames this Spring by choosing one of these trends. You can find all of these frames at Visionworks!
